Free Partition Software

As the name suggests, partition software is software that is used to effectively create partitions in the hard disk of a computer. It might be important to understand first why partitions are needed on a computer at all.  

One of the main reasons why this is done is to keep the C: separated out from the rest of the computer, because this is where most of the system files, such as the all-important boot records, are placed. From the remaining space, other drives are created, which are named in succession, such as D:, E:, F: and so on.

These locations are where the usable files are stored. The advantage is that if a particular file becomes corrupt, it keeps these files free from the C:, and it won’t affect the C:, where all the important files are placed. 

Partitions on computers are also needed for organization of the data present on it. Most people will store their games, movies and music on one drive, their work files on another and their downloaded files on another. This helps to track a required file or folder easily, and can free up space on certain drives. 

Partitioning of a computer’s hard disk is done when formatting the computer. Generally, the following tasks are achieved. 

• An active primary partition is set up (the C drive), also becomes the boot location. The computer needs to be specified which the boot location is if more partitions are made. Also, it is very important that the boot location is the active partition present on the first physical hard disk that is connected to the computer.

• This primary partition needs to be a bootable partition before it can be made active. It should have the operating system files, or it won’t be able to be booted.

• The other partitions are specified and the necessary disk space is allotted to them.
